M Gallery at 406 Main St. in Truth or Consequences, NM will present WATERTOWERS –
40 paintings by DAN BERN - November 8 – November 30, 2008, with an opening reception during Truth or Consequences’ monthly Art Hop on Saturday November 8th, from 6-9pm.

Better known for his songs - some 12 albums-worth - and major contributions to movies such as "Walk Hard-the Dewey Cox story" and "Jimmy Carter, Man From Plains," Dan Bern is very pleased to present "WATERTOWERS," his first-ever art show, at M Gallery in Truth or Consequences, opening November 8, 2008. The TorC Herald's "Outtakes from the bleachers" guy painted the old watertower next to the Veterans center over and over in the last couple of years.  "It was like a meditation," he says, "It kept pulling me back."

Dan was in Cedar Rapids, IA during the 2008 floods. He was involved with several charity events to raise much needed funds for flood relief. One of these projects was "Moving Home," a musical production. Dan wrote much of the music for this musical, and he also appeared in the production singing many of these songs.

The soundtrack for "Moving Home" is now available for downloading on most major music sites (iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, Rhapsody, Napster, etc.). ALL proceeds will go to the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation's Flood Relief Fund.

Please help this cause and download this soundtrack!

Dan made a short film, titled "Booo." Please check it out!

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is now available on DVD! Please go rent it, or buy your own copy today!

We would highly recommend the "2 Disc Special Edition" of the DVD. There is some great Dan Bern content on the bonus disc! Dan is featured in the on screen interviews in the "Music of Walk Hard" section. In the "Song Demo" section, you can hear Dan singing demo verions of 2 songs from the film (and 1 song which is not in the film). There are also additional full song performances of several songs that Dan wrote, including Dear Mr. President, Farmer Glickstein, Hey Mr. Old Guy, Royal Jelly and The Mulatto Song.

And when you watch the film, be sure to keep a close eye on the piano player during the Beautiful Ride scene.... ;-)

Dan Bern will have 3 paintings featured in the new Brooklyn art gallery, Art Break Gallery, from March 29 - April 29, 2008.

Here's an article from Spinner.com, regarding Dan recent appearance at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Here is an announcement from Dan:

some cool film projects coming out soon. "man from plains," the jonathan demme documentary about jimmy carter, prominently uses the song i wrote for the picture, "the ballad of jimmy carter/man from plains." mr. demme is a very cool guy. i got to meet the prez at the toronto film festival, where i sang the song before the screening. it was worth missing the u.s. open final....there will be a soundtrack album, with all 3 versions of the song i recorded in new york, with mike viola producing, and paul kuhn, among others, playing. in december, sony pictures will release "walk hard: the dewey cox story" starring john c. reilly as dewey cox. it was written and directed by jake kasdan and produced by judd apatow. i spent well over a year writing songs for this movie, and wrote more songs than i can count, many of them with mike viola. it was the most fun project i've ever been associated with. the movie will have several songs i wrote or co-wrote, and there will be a double-album of dewey cox songs, which will have a bunch more that i wrote or co-wrote. so, see these movies! get the soundtracks!

Please take a minute to watch the trailers for these films! Jimmy Carter, Man From Plains trailer / Walk Hard:The Dewey Cox Story trailer

Dan's new full-length cd, Breathe, was released on September 19, 2006! You can order your copy NOW in the store!

Dan Bern's sixth long-playing album, Breathe—which again reunites him with big-league producer Chuck Plotkin—is something entirely new for the artist. It takes the personal and finds in it a seedling of renewal. This isn't music that has 'big balls;' instead, it has a big, beating heart. In a way, Bern had always been 'arriving' prior to this, but with this album he has finally Arrived. The songs are not merely preternaturally observant, as they have always been, but feel fully present and made from flesh
and blood. They trade in the verbal fireworks of the past and make a touching investment in the lives of their characters, who are often burned out and beat down by their overwhelmed lives—even the Messiah, who reappears in the title track for His third act, seems more than a little downcast—but who nevertheless somehow find the strength and courage to beat back at the world, even if only in small or symbolic ways. With a gesture of selflessness, Dan disappears into these song-sized narratives and allows his characters to voice their own—and, by extension, our shared—lives. In the process, he has given them and his songs and himself a reason to hope. And room to breathe.

Here are a couple of tracks from the album, in MP3 format:

Here is an announcement from Dan:

we are happy to present, at long last, 'quitting science,' the odyssey of cunliffe merriwether's travels as a man of science. with a preface by dan bern and an introduction by the esteemed critic carmela houndstooth, and containing some 60 illustrations, 'quitting science' will surely grace your bookshelf for years to come, alongside such comparable tomes as 'gulliver's travels,' 'the catcher in the rye,' 'cobalt--its forms and uses,' and other great works of the english language. a limited supply of copies of 'quitting science' ordered from this site will be signed by dan bern himself, who, in penning the preface to 'quitting science,' is perhaps as proud as anything he has ever done--short of winning that spelling medal in the second grade. but never mind that.

QUITTING SCIENCE, published by Kababa; 340 pages. $10. To order your copy, please visit the store.
